The New Patriotic Party (NPP) party member Abubakar Saddiq who was murdered in broad daylight in an attack linked to political violence, was planning to get married, his partner has revealed.
Aisha Inusah told Joy News Ashanti regional correspondent Prince Appiah, she had been dating Saddiq for the past eight years.
She last saw her husband last night but spoke to him Friday morning saying he was in Asawase.
But in a cruel turn of events, Abubakar Saddiq was butchered a few meters away from the Asawase constituency office in the Ashanti region.
The assailants on a motor bike zoomed in on the defenceless Saddiq. The unknown assailants had earlier attacked the party's constituency elections coordinator, Zakari Saeed.
The sobbing lover robbed of an imminent matrimony said she was at Manhyia Roundabout at about 12pm Friday when someone broke the news, Saddiq was no more.
In a dangerous prelude to the tragedy, Abubakar Saddiq was part of the angry Akufo-Addo loyalists who locked up the Asawase Constituency office, Thursday in protest over comments made by the Chairman of the Constituency, Isaac Brenya in an interview.
Isaac Brenya had called on the 2016 NPP flagbearer Nana Addo to step down. Mr. Brenya who was in Accra during the interview was part of a demonstration against the party's decision to suspend its National Chairman Paul Afoko.
The tragedy escalates tension in the party that also lost its Upper East regional chairman Adams Mahama in a tragic acid attack linked to political violence.
