They calll him General Okunka.
Four months ago he was in the studios of Joy FM for the Saturday show, the Joy Sports Link, when he spoke of his desire for another bout before end of year.
True to his word, Fredrick Lawson's management have fixed him one that can take him closer to world domination. And though the fight location total might not match his native Accra, Ghana, Lawson is becoming accustomed to South Florida.
Nearly eight months since his previous bout, Lawson returns to South Florida for another local appearance. Lawson will face Canada’s Kevin Bizier in the main event of a card Saturday night at Miccosukee Resort and Gaming in west Miami-Dade.
“I enjoyed my first trip to Miami and I am happy to be back,” Lawson said Friday afternoon. “This is another important test of my career and I am ready and motivated to come out with the win.”
Lawson, 26, has experienced nothing but victories since his professional debut four years ago. The rising welterweight contender, who moved to the United States last year, is 24-0 with 20 knockouts entering Saturday’s bout against Bizier (24-2, 16 KOs).
Although his professional bouts rarely have featured perilous situations, Lawson encountered a difficult obstacle when he faced Miami resident Breidis Prescott on March 26 at Hialeah Park and Casino. A disputed eighth-round knockdown helped Lawson win a narrow split decision.
“It was a tough fight but I felt I won,” Lawson said. “That fight only will have me more prepared for all the fights moving forward.”
After fighting his first 26 bouts in Canada, Bizier, 31, will make his U.S. debut Saturday. The notable victory of Bizier’s career was his technical knockout stoppage of former world lightweight champion Nate Campbell two years ago.
Saturday’s fight headlines an announced nine-bout card that also will feature Prescott in an undercard match. Prescott (28-7,-21 KOs) will face Brazil’s Claudenei Lacerda (17-12, 12 KOs) in a scheduled eight-round welterweight bout.
The first bout will start at 6:30. NBC Sports Network will begin its telecast at 9, showcasing the Lawson-Bizier bout.
Friday's weigh in had Bizier at 146.6 lbs. and Lawson at 145.6 lbs.

Lawson, rated number 6 in his division, stands a chance to fight for the world title next year should he win against Bizier, rated number 5.
The Ghana Boxing Association have asked the boxer to make the nation proud.
"You mount the ring once again and our thoughts are with you, a fore bearer of our pride. You are but only one of many that has blazed this trail of boxing conquest for Mother Ghana," a statement signed by GBA PRO, Naa Darkuah Dodoo said.
It went on: "As you sojourn, a shot at the world title can only come closer and the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and all Ghanaians in general are solidly behind you. We know your capabilities and are confident you will do us proud. Once you mount the ring, know that you are not alone. We'll keep the vigil and support you from afar. And we believe you'll not disappoint us."
"Now go out there and do your best. Raise high the flag of Ghana. Send shivers down the spine of your opponent. We believe in you. The fire still burns. Yes You Can! God be with you."
