An office of the Department of National Lotteries in Accra has been gutted by fire early Sunday morning.
It is the latest in a string of fire disasters that have ravaged public offices mostly in the capital, Accra.
An eye witness Kofi Ankah told Joy News the timely intervention of personnel from the Fire Service averted what would have been a total disaster.
The fire, like whirlwind, was spreading to the other offices when the fire service arrived, he noted.
Computers and other office equipments and documents were said to have been destroyed by the fire.
The extent of destruction and the cause of the fire are yet to be ascertained.
“When we came we saw the whole building was engulfed with smoke. We have dealt with the fire and the fire is under control, Seth Lartey second in command at the Regional safety department of the National Fire Service told Joy News.
“It is only one office that has been affected,” he confirmed adding they were working to improve on ventilation in the office.
The Director General of the Department of National Lotteries Kojo Andah said the fire will not in any way affect operations of the company.
“That room is an office with no serious assets, especially financial and operational that will affect our operations,” he said.
