The campaign team of the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the Ofoase Ayirebi constituency in the Eastern Region, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has accused the NDC’s aspirant in the Bibiani Ahwiaso Bekwai constituency of plagiarism.
Moses Kofi Armah has been accused of copying the campaign message, symbols and hashtags of the former Joy FM Super Morning Show host and used it for his posters.
The posters have been widely circulated on social media.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah’s campaign manager in a statement condemned the act saying “the modifications to the poster and the attempt to make it appear as the work of the NDC candidate is an act of plagiarism which must be condemned”.
Paul Asamoah said the team will not hesitate in pursuing legal action to protect the copyrights inherent in Mr Nkrumah and the NPPs communication materials.
However, in a quick response, Mr Armah denied knowledge of the said poster.
He said the posters were put up by his supporters who “believe in me and continue to look for creative ways to show this”.
“I must, however, state emphatically that I believe in my own unique identity. It is this unique identity that gave me the urge to go uncontested in a much-resourced district and the same identity which will make me win the seat and restore hope to the people of Bibiani Ahwiaso Bekwai constituency”.
He urged the general public to disregard the "deceit of my detractors".
Below are copies of both statements
The Campaign team of Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Ofoase Ayirebi, has taken notice of an act of plagiarism of Mr Nkrumah's campaign paraphanelia being used in the ongoing NDC primaries in the Bibiani Ahwiaso Bekwai constituency by campaigners for one of the candidates in the NDC primaries- Mr Moses Armah.
Mr Armah's campaigners have doctored a widely circulated poster of Mr Nkrumah, and have replaced Mr Nkrumah's face with that of the NDC candidate and have superimposed their candidates face on Mr Nkrumah's body in the said poster.
Additionally they have deleted NPP symbols and Mr Nkrumah’s campaign hashtags and have instead replaced it with that of their candidate.
Finally, they have copied Mr Nkrumah's taglines and values in a bid to market their candidate in a manner akin to how Mr Nkrumah was marketed in the NPP primaries.
The totality of the modifications to the poster and the attempt to make it appear as the work of the NDC candidate is an act of plagiarism which must be condemned.
While we are flattered that our communication materials are attractive to the NDC campaigners, we implore the candidate and his team to develop their own original materials and utilise for their campaign.
Politics should be about truth and values and not fabrications.
We shall not hesitate to take all necessary steps to protect the copyrights inherent in Mr Nkrumah and the NPPs communication materials.
Signed
Paul Asamoah
