Some residents in Bawku in the Upper East Region are calling for the removal of the Metropolitan Chief Executive of the area. According to them, Musah Abdulai has compromised his neutrality in the violence-prone area and cannot be trusted to be independent. Speaking to Joy News, a resident alleged that the MCE has been shielding culprits who have been accused of illegally possessing arms or other misconducts. They claim the MCE has single-handedly resisted the arrest of miscreants who foment trouble in the area and in cases where they are arrested, he manipulates the police to secure their immediate release. “Whenever there is an arrest and the person is a Kusasi and he is having arms he will just warn the security agents not to arrest the person,” she alleged. She insists the government must appoint a new MCE who is neutral and independent of the two ethnic groups- Kusasis and Mamprusis. The two tribes have been involved in a protracted warfare. But the MCE told Joy News the allegations are unfounded and a calculated attempt by his detractors to distract his attention from the work he is doing. He denied securing the release of culprits, adding that his pre-occupation has been to restore peace in the region. “I can tell you in all fairness that from day one, I have been neutral and the security agencies like the police ... will bear me out that I don’t go to them asking that they should release people who have committed criminal offences. “I don’t do that and they can bear me out,” he emphasised.
