Police sources say the ringleader of the 12 persons arrested for ransacking the NPP Headquarters has confessed that they are supporters of the suspended NPP Chairman, Paul Afoko.

Four others have also written and submitted a statement to the Police revealing that they were called and conveyed from Odorkor to the Headquarters in Assylum Down in Accra under the impression that they were attending a party only for the rules of engagement to change when they got to the party headquarters.

The statement jointly signed by the four explained that they were part of an estimated 400 supporters who were driven in two buses to the party headquarters for the dawn party.

But after arriving at the headquarters many suspected they were being deceived after T-Shirts were shared to them ostensibly for a different operation.

Many of them backed out, leaving 12 supporters  who joined some 15 military men including some ex-servicemen aligned with suspended NPP Chairman Paul Afoko ransacked the NPP Headquarters.

Neither Afoko nor his spokesperson has been available for comment.

A party security officer narrated that at about 1am,  police and military men forced their way in the office. The security man identified one of the military men as a neighbour. The rapport once established allowed him some leeway. He sneaked out of the Headquarters and informed party officials.

Following the raid, the acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party believes some powerful people are behind a dawn raid at the party’s headquarters.

Although Fredie Blay did not mention names, he said the incident was planned to create an impression that there is no peace in the NPP.

“We are convinced that they are a junk of ruffians either sent by some individuals or by some powerful people who want to create an impression that we have a problem in our party,” he stated.

NPP Communications Director Nana Akomea told the media, the party is shocked that military and police officers could conduct searches without a warrant or knowledge of any party official.

"It can turn out to be a grievous attack on Ghana’s democracy".

Suspended National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has however condemned the ransacking of the party’s headquarters.

In a statement released early Monday morning and signed by Nana Yaw Osei, Paul Afoko’s Spokesperson, he called on the security agencies to investigate and get to the bottom of the matter.

"Mr. Afoko condemns in no uncertain terms these incidents and describes same as dents on the party's image"
