Medical report on the 10-year-old girl who has been allegedly defiled by her father, the Head Pastor of Jesus Blood Prophetic Ministry at Oblogo, Prophet Nana Kofi Yirenkyi, shows that her hymen has been broken. Dr Bedford Simon Sarfo, a gynaecologist at the Akropong Government Hospital, who examined the girl, told the Accra Circuit Court yesterday that he examined the girl on February 23, 2010 and the medical report indicated that "the girl is not a virgin and that her hymen has been torn". Counsel for the accused Mr K.N. Acheampong, however, said the breaking of hymen did not suggest that the girl had been sexually assaulted. He mentioned personal insertion of items, insertion by mothers during bathing of children and other cultural factors, which Dr Sarfo admitted. Dr Sarfo, however, said 99.9 per cent of cases of broken hymen were the result of sexual assault. The second medical report on the girl could not be tendered in evidence because the gynaecologist, Dr Amo Mensah of the Police Hospital, who conducted the test, was not in court. The first investigator, ASP Eunice Afe-lipik, said Prophet Yirenkyi had pleaded with the Akropong District Police Commander to release him from the Akropong Police Station because he did not want the case to go out. Counsel, however, disagreed with that claim, insisting that Prophet Yirenkyi had just pleaded to be granted bail. The second investigator, Mr Ransford Osei Djaba, said when he went to the South McCarthy Hill residence of Prophet Yirenkyi, the victim showed him the spot where Prophet Yirenkyi allegedly had sex with her on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. He said Prophet Yirenkyi had told him that it was one Efo who had defiled the girl and claimed that the same Efo had earlier defiled his step-daughter. According to Mr Djaba, Prophet Yirenkyi said he had reported the case to the SCC Police Station at Weija but when he (Djaba) went there, the police could not trace that record.
