The process to commit Gregory Afoko for trial at the High Court for the murder of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Adam Mahama, will commence on December 9.
This follows a bill of indictment brought before an Accra Magistrate's Court yesterday, charging Afoko and Asapke Alande, who is at large, for murder on the advice of the Attorney-General.
The court, presided over by Worlanyo Kotoku, however, discharged the third accused person, Issah Musah for lack of evidence.
Afoko and Alande have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, to wit murder.
According to the facts of the case, Alhaji Mahama on May 20, went out and on his return at about 11 p.m., was attacked at the entrance of his house by two men who poured acid on him.
He shouted for help, causing his wife and some neighbours to rush to the scene of the incident.
Alhaji Mamaha mentioned Afoko and Alande as those who poured the acid on him.
Following this, the police arrested Afoko and arraigned him before court.
Upon his arrest, the police found that part of Afoko's trousers had been burnt and following a forensic examination by the Ghana Standards Authority, it was proven that there was contact of sulpheric acid.
