The Human Rights Court in Accra has adjourned the case involving former Health Minister, Sipa Adja-Yankey and the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, CHRAJ, to 20th May, 2010 for ruling.Dr. Sipa Yankey is praying the court to compel CHRAJ to set a public panel to investigate allegations of bribery leveled against him in the Mabey and Johnson scandal.It would be recalled that, lawyers for some of the persons mentioned as beneficiaries of alleged bribery from Mabey & Johnson filed processes against CHRAJ challenging its powers to hold public hearings in the case. Others yet said CHRAJ could not investigate the case and proceeded to court to test CHRAJ’s jurisdiction. Consequently, the Commissioner CHRAJ, Justice Francis Emile Short announced the Commission’s suspension of its probe.However Dr. Sipa Adja-Yankey who insists he did not receive any bribes from the accused company, urged CHRAJ to go ahead with its public hearing of his case and filed an application at the Human Rights Court praying the court to compel CHRAJ to proceed on his case.Story by Yaa Asantewaa/Asempa FM
