The Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare (MESW) has set up a committee to address irregularities identified by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOSSAG) regarding the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS). Members of the committee include representatives from MESW, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Office of Head of Civil Service, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and CLOSSAG. It would evaluate some challenges identified in the SSSS and provide solutions for its smooth implementation. This was the outcome of a meeting organised by MESW and attended by members of FWSC and CLOSAG in Accra on Friday. Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, said the meeting was necessary because CLOSSAG was not satisfied with the response of the FWSC to their grievances. He said challenges were bound to crop up with any new policy and the challenges with the new salary policy could not be completely addressed before its implementation. Mr Mensah gave the assurance that the SSSS would take off in July and issues that would crop up after its implementation would be resolved along the line. Mr George Smith-Graham, Chief Executive Officer of FWSC, said the commission would not reverse government's decision to implement the SSSS and that the challenges would be appropriately resolved.
