Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Chiropractic and Wellness Centre in Ghana, Dr Marcus Mann, has announced the decision by the Centre to establish a chiropractic school in the country within the next two years.
It would be the first of its kind in West Africa and would be sited in Accra.
South Africa is the only African country that has such a school.
Dr Mann, who was interacting with newsmen in Kumasi to highlight the health benefits of chiropractic, noted that when established, the school would run courses in chiropractic research, physiology, rehabilitation, nutrition and public health, leading to the award of certificates.
It would also make provision for online and satellite tuition for the benefit of international students.
Chiropractic involves analyzing the spinal column and structural system of the human body to identify vertebral defects and correct these, using techniques including massaging and physiotherapy.
This helps to improve the nervous system by awakening one's own natural healing ability for the treatment of diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, ear infections, migraine, chronic fatigue, infertility and digestive problems.
Chiropractic adheres to the principle that the body possesses its own innate healing power if the spinal cord is free from stress.
Dr Mann underlined the need for the country's health authorities to fully integrate chiropractic into the health care system.
He said a branch of the Centre would be inaugurated soon in Kumasi.
