Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari jumped to the defence of his coach, Jose Mourinho after the Inter Milan boss came under attack from Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes last night.
The controversial Portuguese manager sparked fury at the Nou Camp after leading a 10-man Inter into the Champions League final.
The Special One had a bust-up with Valdes at the end after charging on to the pitch in wild celebration.
While Valdes was pushing Mourinho, Muntari arrived in great speed to try to fend off the attack on the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’.
By the time Muntari arrived on the scene the former Chelsea chief had shrugged off Valdes to celebrate and the Ghanaian joined the boss to celebrate.
Muntari’s well documented quick temper could have launched him into a brawl with Valdes if Mourinho had not shrugged off the incident while a referee’s assistant also arrived on the scene.
The Ghanaian then joined Mourinho, who put his arms around Muntari’s neck, to continue to celebrate the famous triumph over the well drilled Barcelona side.
And Mourinho said: “Valdes thought I was celebrating negatively against the public. It’s not true – I was there for the Inter fans and I wanted to celebrate with my players.”
“We were a team of heroes. We sweated blood.
“The defeat was the best of my life, but I think this team deserved to draw 0-0. Our keeper Julio Cesar had an amazing game.
“It is an incredible joy. I have already won a Champions League but this was even better.”
