Ghana defender John Paintsil claims a miracle kept his name in Fulham’s Europe squad after an injury late last year nearly ruled him out of their fairytale season.
It was reported that Fulham asked Uefa to exclude him from their team after he suffered a serious knee injury during a League match against Chelsea in December last year.
But the club’s secretary mistakenly omitted another player from their Europa League squad.
Paintsil has since regained his full fitness and excelled in last Sunday’s 2-1 defeat by Everton.
“It’s a miracle. I don’t even understand what happened. My name is supposed to be deleted from the main list that will represent Fulham in the last 16 and quarter-finals because of my injury and what happened was that the secretary forgot,” An elated Paintsil told Ghanasocccernet.com
“She was doing some work on the passports so she forgot to omit my name and all is a miracle.
“The guy who was playing the right-back had two yellow cards and needed a replacement. The club tried to find out from Uefa if John Paintsil can be re-instated but were told my name already existed.
“I found out two days ago that I will be playing this match and will be available to play in the final on 12 May.”
Paintsil played full throttle in their comeback 2-1 victory over Hamburg at Craven Cottage and will face Atletico Madrid.
