Multi TV is set to top a season of exclusive live broadcast of the Europa League on Joy Sports and Adom TV (Akan commentary), with the Fulham versus Atletico Madrid grand finale, set, ironically, in a historic venue in the city of Hamburg, Germany!
While the cliff-hanger semi-final between Liverpool and victors Atletico Madrid was broadcast live on Joy Sports and Adom TV on Thursday, a playback of Fulham’s come-back triumph over Hamburg will be on Joy Sports on Friday, at 8:30pm with Ghanaian international, John Paintsil, in full flight. For now, attention shifts to the final and the venue.
The tickets had already started selling even before the semi-final matches kicked off in Anfield and Craven Cottage on Thursday; and as the first ever UEFA Europa League grand final draws inexorably close to the Hamburg showdown, the pundits are already running riot with speculations of what could have been if . . .! However, the speculators notwithstanding, the venue is set in stone and cannot be argued away: the HSH Nordbank Arena! It’s the logical culmination of 192 hopeful clubs
The Hamburg Arena is ready to add the first ever Europa League grand finale to its illustrious history. With a capacity of 57,000, the rebuilt Hamburg Arena, opened in 2000, hosted five games at the 2006 World Cup finals and is now gearing up to stage its first European final on 12th May, 2010 (date reference - UEFA official website).
HSH Nordbank Arena has a history that also includes the 1974 FIFA World Cup final and the 1988 UEFA European Championship. It is located at the original site of the Bahrenfelder Stadium which opened in 1925; was rebuilt and renamed Volksparksstadion (The People's Park Stadium) between 1951 and 1953 from the ruins of Eimsbuttel, a Hamburg district laid waste by Allied bombardment during the Second World War. It was again demolished and rebuilt in the 1990s minus the athletics facilities to create more seating capacity and bring fans closer to the action on the pitch.
