The 1965 group of Black Stars players who won the Cup of Nations were honoured by some individuals in the country at a fund-raising dinner at the Sunlodge hotel at Tesano, Accra.
Black Stars captain and Shanghai SIPG player Asamoah Gyan, presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party [NPP], Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo and the Despite Group of Companies led by Mr. Osei Kwame Despite made huge sum donations to support the 1965 winning team.
Asamoah Gyan who recently cut the sod for an Astro Turf pitch he is sponsoring at former school Accra Academy made a GHS 50 000 donation to the Cup of Nations winning side.
The Despite Group of Companies coughed up a whopping GHS 80 000 with Nana Akufo-Addo donating GHS 25 000 to the 1965 squad of senior national team players.
Other individuals including Kennedy Agyepong of Kenpong Travel and Tours, Mr Prosper Appiah of Prolux and a few more made donations to the team.
The fundraising dinner was part of celebrations for half a century since the Black Stars won their second Cup of Nations tournament in Tunisia.
The event was also marked by a football game between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and the 1992 team that won silver.
