The Owuo We of Osu has accused the Greater Accra Security Council (REGSEC), the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Ghana Police Service of being the brain behind the “so-called coronation of a second Osu Mantse” on Monday 3rd May, 2010.
According to the family, abominations have been committed on the Ga land due to the installation of Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI as the second Osu Mantse.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra to react to the coronation, the Shipi of Osu, Nii Noi Kpenuku IV, explained that the police prevented them from disrupting the coronation, alleging that some high powered people in the NDC like the Regional Minister were the brain behind the coronation.
Nii Kpenuku IV said the Owuo Family would be petitioning the President tomorrow to look into the matter since Nii Norte Owuo III has not been destooled and is still the Osu Mantse.
“The man who is parading himself as Osu Mantse cannot be the Osu Mantse. The Mankralo has not told us, the people of Osu who his father is. The mother is from Osu, a Wellington, from Osu Alata,” he explained.
Nii Kpenuku IV further explained that it is not the turn of the Dowuona family to ascend the Osu throne, since “there has never been a ceremony anywhere at Osu to destool Nii Nortey Owuo II, thus he remains the Osu Mantse”.
He explained that the fact that the Regional House of Chief has deleted the name of Nii Nortey Owuo III from its register does not means he is not the chief of Osu.
“What happened on 3rd May 2010 was for TV camera and not for the people of Osu,” he explained.
Meanwhile, two days after the coronation, police personnel were still at post at both Nii Dowuona Royal House and the coronation center ensuring that peace prevails in the area.
