President of Bechem United Kingsley Owusu Achau has labelled the delayed start of the Ghana Premier League as hell and also a serious drain on the pockets of club owners.
The Ghanaian top flight has been delayed over what appears to be a never-ending legal tussle between Techiman City vs. Wa African United and Dreams FC vs. Tema Youth FC
The Tema-based side have filed an appeal at the Court of Arbitration and Sports seeking to overturn a decision by the judicial body of the Ghana FA over the eligibility of Cudjoe Mensah.
Mensah was accused of registering for two clubs in two different tiers of the leagues in the country under different names - Daniel Gozar and Cudjoe Mensah.
Techiman City and Wa African United are also battling a case with the Ghana Football Association over their demotion to the third-tier after the GFA Ethics Committee found both teams guilty of bribery and match fixing in a division one league game.
Owusu Achau who finances Bechem United says the situation is draining their pockets as well as affecting his players.
“It is financially draining our pockets, it’s financially hell, you feed the players three times a day, you train and you don’t know when we are going to start the league.”
“Actually, it is a blow, a blow to Ghana Football, l wish we could find a way to resolve these issues earlier than January 10.”
“This is where we are, we have to make do with whatever they tell us,” he told Adom Sports.
“For us the club administrators, we are really worried by the delay of the league, especially those of us who finance the clubs.”
The start date for the league is yet unknown after the December 20 date was not met due to the issues with the disciplinary committee.
