Black Stars management committee chairman Fred Pappoe is staying calm as injuries threaten Ghana's World Cup campaign and insists the state of anxiety among many Ghanaians stems out of the manner the issues are reported. Ghana is sweating on the fitness of key duo John Mensah and Michael Essien ahead of the tournament but Pappoe says compared to four months ago, the situation is rather encouraging. "The spate of injuries as you see it is a reflection of a form of reportage that has not been subjected to regular updates," Pappoe said. "Three, four weeks ago I would have been alarmed because Michael Essien was injured and is still injured, Laryea Kingston had one form of injury or the other, John Paintsil was injured and then John Mensah had his running problems. "But Laryea Kingston played over the weekend for 90 minutes for his club, Paintsil has helped his team reach the Europa final since returning and even though Mensah went off against Manchester United he is not completely out so I think it is rather encouraging. What we have to hope is that there is no recurrence of an old injury or that they don't pick new ones. But as we sit here, I don't think the injury situation is worrying." One injury that is worrying though clearly is the situation of Michael Essien who himself has said he is not sure if he will be good to play at the World Cup. Pappoe says the GFA is monitoring his situation closely. "We are at the stage where we would call it wait and see. Everyone is working around the clock to get Michael fit for the World Cup."
