Coach Abubakar Yusif has been sacked as head coach of Accra Hearts of Oak with just one match to draw the 2010 Glo league season to a close.
This was confirmed by a management member of the club, Frank Nelson in an interview with Joy Sports’ Ridwan Ibrahim Asante on Sunday.
His dismissal comes moments after the club lost 0-1 to rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the May 9 match to commemorate the death of some 126 soccer fans who perished in a bitter league game in 2001.
According to Nelson, the coach “is not competent enough to handle the duties of the club.” He said Abubakar Yusif did not live up to expectation, adding “Hearts are not getting the results they want match after match".
Yusif leaves the club with the team manager, Nelson confirmed. He maintained that the club will soon announce a replacement for the coach and team manager.
The assistant coach, Tony Allotey is expected to act until a substantive coach is announced.
Meanwhile, the sacked coach says he has not received any official notification.
Yusif Abubakar told Ridwan Asante he could not be sacked for technical incompetency, adding several other factors contributed to Hearts losing the league title.
Sounding more confident about his achievements for the club, Mr Yusif said he will not contest the decision to sack him but drew attention to the club's contractual obligations to him.
Hearts lie third on the league table with 47 points and will play Heart of Lions at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in the final match of the season on Wednesday.
