David Agbanyo, 27, a member of the infamous Kofi Fiagbedzi, alias ‘Spider’, robbery gang, who died in March this year, during a shoot-out with the police at one of his robbery sprees, has been arrested by the Greater Accra Regional Police. He was arrested at Ho in the Volta region, upon tip off, and later sent down to Accra. During an identification parade held recently by the Regional Command, suspect Agbanyo was identified among other suspected criminals by another victim, who suffered similar attack on January 20, 2010. Briefing newsmen on Monday, May 10, at the Regional Command, Deputy Regional Commander and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Christian Yohuno said in March this year, the residence of Ghanaian diplomat was attacked by robbers and several valuables belonging to his family taken away. He mentioned the late Spider as masterminding the said robbery with his accomplice, Agbanyo, but luck eluded him (Spider). He was shot and killed on the spot while Agbanyo escaped from police grips. However, the victim confirmed that Agbanyo was among the gang which robbed his house on January 20, 2010. According to ACP Yohuno, the complainant told the police he was returning from town to his Tema residence that fateful day, when three men pounced on him at the gate to his house, and demanded the key to his 4x4 Range Rover vehicle. He said all three men were armed with pump action guns as well as pistols. Initially, the complainant resisted but later succumbed after he was shot in the left arm. The complainant further told the police, “it was suspect David Agbanyo who even pulled him out of the vehicle and took possession of the vehicle”. In a separate development, a thirty-two year-old resident at Nungua Kantamanto in Accra, Charles Kobena Asiedu, is also in police custody for his alleged possession of fake currency. The suspect, who hails from Ajumako Esaman in the Central region, was arrested by an Accra Regional Police patrol team in the wee hours of Monday, May 10 upon a tip off that he used the money-doubling techniques to defraud unsuspecting persons from far and near. The Deputy Regional Commander told the media that the suspect claimed he could double any amount of money brought to him and during such exploits he robbed the people of their hard earned money. A ‘chop box’, presented as an exhibit by the police, showed several US$100 denomination spread on the surface, but beneath was quantities of packed toilet rolls. This was suggested that the ‘chop box’ was filled with foreign currency.
