Police in Ashanti Region have arrested four persons including a Burkinabe for possessing and transporting a cache of ammunition to Niger.
The suspects, three of whom are Ghanaians were picked up upon a tip off.
Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah who has been following the story reports the suspects were arrested at a House in Alabar, a suburb of Kumasi.
It is the biggest arms haul in the history of the Kumasi Police.
The arms retrieved include 20 AK47 guns, machine guns and countless ammunitions, Ohemeng reported.
The police will not disclose the identities of the suspects except to say that the Burkinabe is claiming ownership of the guns and ammunitions.
The Burkinabe claimed to have bought the weapons from Ivory Coast and was transporting it to Niger before he was arrested at his Alabar residence.
Police believe there is more to this arrest and have begun a thorough investigation into the matter.
