The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has declared its resolve to review the Referees Committee as a measure towards enhancing good officiating in the country's football leagues.
Allegations of bribery and corruption against referees have been the order of the day in recent times, and the GFA insists a review of the committee is one of the immediate steps towards curbing that canker.
Kwesi Nyantakyi, GFA President who announced this in his opening address at the Ordinary General Assembly of the GFA on Wednesday in Accra expressed the Executive Committee's concern regarding the negative comments about the "Knights of the Whistle."
He added that his outfit will also review the procedure for appointment and notification of appointment of referees effective the next football season.
Nyantakyi also said that the number of referees in the Premier division will be slashed down to ensure only competent officials handle games.
The GFA President added that private investigators and detectives will be engaged to help trace all culprits as well as work in hand with state security agencies to assist in the identification and punishment of any perpetrators of violence at the stadia.
On the judicial bodies, he said his outfit will empower the Committees with the adequate resources and support to enable them carry out their duties judiciously.
He pledged that the GFA will restructure its media section into a department to meet the increasing demands of time.
Meanwhile, the General Assembly described issues pertinent to the development of the game with much emphasis on the promotion of women's football.
A member of the assembly, Ms Helena Cobbina, advocated for the establishment of a national Women's League as one of the steps towards revitalizing the women's game in the country.
Her concern received an audacious response from the membership who all rooted for the patronage of women's football in the country.
Congress is the legislative and supreme organ of the GFA and it is constituted by 123 members made up of the various stakeholders and Club officials.
