Professor Aaron Nii Lante Lawson, Provost of College of Health Science, Korle Bu, has hinted that a 400-acre land has been acquired near Noguchi Memorial Research Institute in Accra to construct an ultra modern 100-bed teaching hospital.
He said it formed part of its expansion programme adding that the project if complete would serve the West African sub region.
Prof. Lawson said "Within a few months construction will begin. On the same land, we hope to construct School of Biomedical Science all estimated at about 100 million dollars. It would be a medical village with a helicopter attached," he said.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency in Accra on Thursday, Prof Lawson said the authorities hoped to increase the number of beds to 600 in future with the availability of funds.
He explained that the village was being established due to the anticipation of some medical problems to be associated with the oil find where managements of oil companies might be in need of quality health care for their workers.
Prof. Lawson said the nation needed to prepare adequately to promptly intervene to cater for such medical challenges that might occur.
He appealed to the private sector to partner authorities of the College in their quest to establish such facilities that would help ease the pressure and congestion at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
