Kotoko will now play Fudbalski Klub Jagodina of Serbia in the 80thh anniversary match scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on January 3, 2016.
Formed in 1919, Jagodina is a SuperLiga side in the top division football league in Serbia.
The Porcupines were billed to host Greece’s Veria FC but a last minute hitch, according to the organisers called for the change.
Chief Executive of Office of Pacific Football Ghana Limited, Eric Oppong-Yeboah, whose firm is organizing the game, told Asantekotokosc.com that, they made a quick switch to Serbia for a new opponent in order to carry on their intent of bringing a European side to face Kotoko in Kumasi.
“We’ve suffered some setbacks in trying to get this match played and the last one had to do with changing the opponent because of a last minute hitch. We contacted our agents in Serbia and we had Jagodina ready to come down” said Eric Oppong-Yeboah.
This is the second time the opponent has been changed. Romanian club, Petrolul FC were the first team to be named before the organisers announced Veria FC from Greece.
The match itself has twice been postponed from September 4 to October 11 and then to November 15, 2015. The organisers say, nothing will stop them from getting the game played on January 3, 2016.
