About a hundred Ghanaians Saturday joined a march to raise awareness about childhood cancers in the country.
The march was organized by a child cancer support NGO-“Little Angels Trust” and attracted school children, medical practitioners and volunteers.
Participants walked for about ten kilometres through the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to the Korle Bu hospital.
The event comes on the heels of a revelation by doctors that more and more children in Ghana are being diagnosed with the disease.
According to the NGO the financial challenges and emotional strain that families as well as the children go through is enormous.
“Out of the long term admission at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, cancer is the number one killer of our children," Lavina Anim Amui founder of the organization told Joy News' Yaa Asamoah.
She said there is a lot of ignorance on the threat of cancer on child development and hoped a lot more will be done in creating awareness and educating people on the threat of child cancer.
The NGO has been a regular donor to the child cancer unit over the years and again presented assorted gift items to all the children in the child care department of the hospital.
