Dr Mrs Berth Ofei-Awuku, a medical officer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Hospital, has advised pensioners to have between six and eight hours rest a day, because enough rest and sleep enable the body to heal and stay health.
She also advised them to have time-balanced meals of two hours after waking up in the morning, thereafter, interval between each meal should be five hours and the last meal for the day should also not be too late.
Dr Mrs Ofei-Awuku was addressing the seventh quadrennial delegate's Conference of the Central Region Ghana Pensioners Association at Cape Coast.
The theme was "The Health Needs and Lifestyle of the Pensioner in the Economic and Political Development of the Country".
She further advised them to undertake circulatory exercises, and also visit their doctors regularly, to check their health status.
Dr Mrs Ofei-Awuku advised older people against the eating of egg yolk saying it was high in cholesterol and must be avoided by people who are old.
She expressed misgivings about the free medical care for the aged that has been pegged at 70 years, saying, as one approach that age; she or he is prone to all sorts of diseases.
