Ivory Coast joined hosts Rwanda in the quarter finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarter-finals with a 4-1 win over Gabon in their final Group A game, as hosts Rwanda, who had already qualified, were thrashed 4-1 by Morocco.
The result left the Elephants in second place - level on points with Rwanda - who finished top of the table having beaten Ivory Coast 1-0 in their opening game.
Ivory Coast went into recess with a 1-0 lead against Gabon through Aka Essis’ strike after 19 minutes.
That goal separated the two sides until six minutes after the break when Franck Obambou's header put Gabon level.
Striker Djedje Guiza struck on 62 minutes, substitute Koffi Boua made it 3-1 after 77 minutes and Nilmar Ble struck Ivory Coast's fourth goal just six minutes from time to ensure qualification for Michel Dussuyer’s side.
In the other game which was played simultaneously, Rwanda took their feet off the peddle after two wins out of two, as Morocco went on a first half rampage.
Abdelghani Mouaoui gave Morocco the lead after just 16 minutes and Mohamed Aziz followed up to make it 2-0 eight minutes later.
Hegman Ngomirakiza pulled one back for Rwanda, but Abdeladim Khadrouf's header made it 3-1 to Morocco with Mouaoui grabbing his second and Morocco's fourth two minutes before half-time to secure a 4-1 win.
Despite thrashing the hosts, Morocco have been eliminated alongside Gabon.
