Cabinet has rejected a national youth policy formulated by the erstwhile New Patriotic Party government. It says the policy is not in line with the vision and ideology of the National Democratic Congress and has directed the Ministry of Youth and Sports to formulate a new policy in two weeks.Acting coordinator of the National Youth Council, Sekou Nkrumah revealed this in an interview with Joy FM’s Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on Thursday. The National Coordinator is not impressed with the decision by cabinet. He suspects the decision was taken more out of partisan consideration and hopes he is wrong, for that would be most unfortunate. He said if such key policies cannot be insulated from unbridled politicisation, then Ghana will be better of under a one party state.Sekou Nkrumah said the policy has been dragging for far too long and called on the youth across the political divide to press government for the policy to be institutionalized.According to him, the rejected policy was an improvement on the one formulated in 1999 and was skeptical anything substantial will change in two weeks.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
