A circuit court in Cape Coast, on Tuesday sentenced Kojo Mensah, a 24-year old unemployed man, to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 9-year-old primary two girl.
Mensah pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement.
Inspector Daniel Agbezuhlor told the court, presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu Badu that Mensah and the victim lived in the same house at Ajumako Besease in the Central Region.
He said on Monday, June 21 this year at about 1730 hours, a co-tenant, a witness in the case, saw Mensah following the victim to the washroom and being suspicious, he decided to spy on them.
Inspector Agbezuhlor said the witness after some time forced the door open and found both Mensah and the victim naked but the convict managed to escape.
The prosecution said the girls' mother was informed about the matter and she (mother) reported the case to the Police who issued a medical form for the girl to be examined at the hospital.
Mensah told the Police that he had had sex with the girl on two occasions and gave her GH¢1, warning her not to disclose the matter to anyone.
