The Police in Tamale in the Northern Region has provisionally charged a 30-year-old scrap dealer Abdul Wahab Alhassan with murder pending the Attorney General’s advice.
The suspect is accused of stabbing to death a 25-year-old man over a wrap of weed.
The incident occurred on the 8 February, 2016 when the suspect and the deceased, Mugtaru Nurudeen, engaged in a scuffle at a popular base in Bil-pe-la, a suburb of Tamale.
The scrap dealer stabbed the victim in the chest.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told JOY NEWS the suspect is currently on remand.
"A postmortem examination was conducted on the body of the deceased on the 9th and the verbal cause of death by the pathologist was 'as a result of shock and penetrative knife wound to the heart so we have remanded him into prison custody to reappear on the 29 of this month," he said.
Meanwhile in Accra, the regional police command says it has written to the Attorney General Department for direction on how to proceed with a case involving two members of the New Patriotic Party.
The police last year arrested two members of the party’s private security referred to as Invincible Forces, for allegedly engaging in violence at the NPP headquarters.
Accra Regional Police Commander, COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare told JOY NEWS although his outfit is determined to prosecute the suspects, there have been some challenges.
He said the person whose properties were destroyed are unwilling to come forward and cooperate with the police.
