President Mills is calling for a heroic welcome for the Black Stars as they arrive in Accra on Monday.
The team was set to make history last week as the first African country to qualify to the semi finals stage of the FIFA world.
However, they left millions of soccer fans across the globe disappointed after losing to Uruguay by 4-2 on penalties.
Speaking to journalists on arrival from Cape Verde, President Mills said Ghanaians must be proud of the Black Stars.
“I would want to thank the whole of Africa and even beyond. You know at the meeting (AU Summit in Cape Verde). I noticed that the greatest supporters were my colleagues and they all were watching the match with keen interest and with the best of wishes for the Black Stars,” the president announced.
“And I think that Ghanaians should give them a befitting welcome; the’ve lifted high the flag of Ghana and the least we can do is to show our appreciation…Africa has already sent out positive signals and we’re going to battle it out with them.”
Soccer fans have been telling Joy News what kind of reception they would give the Black Stars when the team arrives today?
“I’ll just welcome them back home and tell them that they’ve done well,” one fan said while another said “we’ll welcome them well because they have done well; they have tried their best, what they can do they have done it.”
Meanwhile the Black Stars on Sunday jubilated in South Africa ahead of their arrival in Accra on Monday.
They were taken through the principal streets of Johannesburg amidst fanfare and merry making.
Joy Sports correspondent in Johannesburg, Ernest Koranteng, who witnessed the jubilation said “it was all fan.”
