Efforts are underway to give residents of Nsawam Adoagyiri water by Saturday after acute shortage causes a stir there.
Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing says it will get tough on the sector ministry if the promise doesn’t materialize.
Residents have been without water since last week. Good news is that officials of the Ghana Water Company (GWC) have discovered ground water in two different locations.
“This is an ad hoc measure to augment the efforts of the GWC in ensuring that water is delivered to the people as part of the emergency measure,” said Deputy Water Resources Works and Housing Minister, Samuel Yaw Adusei.
Adusei spoke to Joy News after a closed door meeting with the parliamentary select committee on Works and Housing that a long-term solution to crisis has been identified.
The deputy minister said some identified human activities like farming on the river bank, water pollution, de-silting, farming activities have contributed to the current situation of water shortage.
To forestall future water shortage, Adusei said Water Resources Commission’s Policy in 2013 is serving as a study guide for Ministry.
Chairman of the works and housing committee of parliament, David Tetteh Assuming says the Ministry would have questions to answer if it fails to meet the Saturday deadline.
