Barcelona opened up a nine-point lead at the top of La Liga as goals from Luis Suarez and Neymar secured a hard-fought 2-1 win away at Las Palmas.
The victory extends Barcelona’s club record unbeaten run to 32 games in all competitions ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League last-16 first leg against Arsenal.
Suarez opened the scoring after six minutes with a firm finish from a Jordi Alba cross and he was instrumental in the second too, as his determined run into the box allowed Lionel Messi to get a shot away, with Neymar turning in the rebound.
Suarez should have scored a hat-trick, with numerous chances being spurned by the former Liverpool striker, but he still became the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to reach 25 goals for the season.
Las Palmas mounted a brave response, with Willian Jose equalising after 10 minutes and the home side never stopping to look for a route back into the game, but Barca are near unstoppable at present. Arsenal beware.
