Ghana, making their debut in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, would be aiming for a first success today in their opening Group D fixture against reigning champions, USA.
The meeting is the first between both sides in the women’s game with the Black Princesses determined to get off their campaign to a good start as Groups C and D kicked off their campaigns on Tuesday.
Having named his starting team for the crucial opening tie in Dresden, Ghana coach, Kuuku Dadzie hopes to see the Black Princesses take a cue from the performances of the senior male team, the Black Stars at the World up in South Africa where they beat the United States to reach the quarter-finals.
“It’s a tough game but we are confident. The U.S are a good side and their record at the tournament over the past years allude to that fact.
“But we can take inspiration from the Black Stars’ campaign at the World Cup in South Africa where they beat the U.S. I hope to psyche up the girls to draw lessons from that” says Kuuku Dadzie.
The Ghana's coach is confident of matching the Americans who have enjoyed a good run of form in the competition as they aim to extend their winning run of 20 wins out of 24 games (two of the other four games ended as draws and subsequent defeat via a penalty shoot-out).
