Fort Prizensten at Keta is now a death trap which tourists can no longer visit.

That is the state of the slave dungeon operated by the Danish colonial masters in the 16th century.

The dungeon became a transit point from which thousands of slaves were shipped abroad.

Fort Prizensten at Keta in the Volta Region later became a major tourist site, generating revenue for the municipality.

But the Fort has now become a death trap that tourists no longer want to visit.

Residents want government to renovate the structure as Ghana celebrates its 59th Independence Anniversary.

Joy News' Joseph Opoku Gakpo visited the fort and has filed this report for our special “Ghana Month” series.
