The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) would continue to assist authorities of basic and second cycle institutions to improve on the training of Cadet Corps, Lieutenant A.K. Gyapong-Osei, Acting Adjutant of Fifth Infantry Battalion said on Friday.
He said the relationship between GAF and educational institutions was a healthy development, which signified the need for firm discipline and a sense of comradeship that had to be cultivated through training to create order in the society.
Lt. Gyapong-Osei was addressing the inaugural parade of Jesus is Alive Preparatory School Cadet Corps at Dansoman in Accra.
It was formed about four years ago.
Lt Gyapong-Osei said the essence of cadet corps was to stimulate a sense of nationalism among the youth and instil in them tenets of good behaviour and discipline required for sound growth.
However, he cautioned members of the cadet corps that, they were neither soldiers nor policemen in school therefore they should avoid imposing themselves as custodians of the law on their colleagues as being responsible for enforcement of discipline in the school.
Lt. Gyapong-Osei urged the members to assist the school authorities to create conducive environment for teaching and learning stressing that the level of support they would receive from the school authorities depended solely on how well they combined academic work with the cadet corps activities.
Mr Emmanuel Augustus Allotey, Proprietor of Jesus is Alive School, said the Cadet Corps was established to channel the youthful and abundant energy of the students into useful and productive ventures.
He noted that, the avenues of life would make them aware of the discipline and respect for the elderly, and pledged support for the cadet corps.
