Boxing fans who troop to the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium to witness the WPBF Light Heavyweight title between Ghana’s Braimah Kamoko and his Argentine contender Hector Velazco, must be ready for a surprise.
Kamoko, popularly called Bukom Banku says he will make a triumphant entry to ring side on the 31 July, 2010 in a coffin.
“I will sleep in coffin to come to the ringside to mark the return of the ghost,” Bukom Banku told sit-in host of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Benard Saibu.
He would not explain why he would take such a decision, except to say that after he has won the bout he will tell everybody why he slept in the coffin.
The act might be construed to be part of his spiritual preparedness for the bout, but Banku says there is no juju in boxing.
According to him, the only juju in boxing is training, and his coach, Alowee he calls him, has toughened him enough for the bout.
Banku has called for prayers from Ghanaians but cautioned all boxing fans to arrive on time or they will lose the action.
The bout is promoted by the Golden Mike Boxing Promotions and it is dubbed, ‘Night of Champions’.
In other bouts, Joshua Okine, a former Commonwealth Champion, would fight for the vacant WPBF Welterweight crown against Muhammed Abdullar of Uzbekistan, while Albert Mensah battles Karen Tevosiyan of Russia for the vacant Super Lightweight title.
Emmanuel Tagoe, also takes on Samuel Kuamau of Kenya for the World Boxing Organization Africa Super Featherweight championship.
