Asante Kotoko ended their poor run of form with a 1-0 victory over Secondi Hasaacas at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday in a late kickoff to register their first win in the ongoing season.
The win has brought a big sigh of relief to Coach David Duncan who until the game was under massive pressure to bring Asante Kotoko to winning ways, after the hierarchy of the club held a crisis meeting at their secretariat in Kumasi.
Asante Kotoko right from the referee’s first whistle showed their intention to carry the day, as they pinned Sekondi Hasaacas to the back of the wall, but the first half of the game failed to produce any goal.
Kotoko back from the break continued their dominance over the ‘Giants of the West’, however, their attacking line with the likes of Dauda Mohammed, Kwame Boateng were misfiring on the night, as they failed to threaten George Owu in post.
As Kotoko continued to press for the opener, it was a matter of time for the deadlock of the game to be broken and as the clock ticked away, the former Gt. Olympics striker, Kwame Boateng struck the much needed goal in the 70th minute to end their poor run of form this season, after having gone 4 league games without a win.
Thus Kotoko have brought their poor run of results this season that equaled that of 1974 to an end: It would be recalled that in 1974 the club had to wait until match day 7 to earn their first league victory, after having lost two and drawn 2 of their first 4 league games, like what happened in the ongoing season after 4 games.
The Porcupine Warriors have extended their wins over Hasaacas to 45, with 21 ending in draws and the visitors winning 16 of their 82 encounters in the league.
