Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan will be staying at his club Rennes this season, the French Ligue One side has revealed.
Gyan, who impressed many at the World Cup with Ghana, had been the subject of interest from a plethora of clubs, with Fenerbahce the most serious suitor.
However, the Turkish side were at first unable to agree a fee with Rennes for Gyan and then, following their dumping out of the Champions League.
Rennes had given Fenerbahce the deadline of Friday to complete the deal for the Black Stars striker but they could not reach a deal.
Rennes general manager Pierre Dreossi told L’Equipe: “Rennes broke off contact” over Gyan’s move but “it’s true one day [he might leave] because we would not necessarily refuse a good offer.”
Fenerbahce have now made a more serious move for Marseille forward Mamadou Niang.
Now Gyan will remain at Rennes, although perhaps not for the long term.
