A 42nd minute goal from South Africa’s Katlego Mphela was the only blot on an otherwise perfect history making night for Multi-TV.
Fans tuning into to Multi-TV at 6:00pm for an exclusive telecast of the Black Stars first outing since the ‘hands of the devil’ denied them a deserved place in the World Cup semi-final, had two live discussion programmes to chose from.
Lovers of everything Ghanaian tuned into Adom TV where the popular Kofi Asare Brako (Abate) led the pre-match discussions ably supported by former Black Star dribbling machine, Nii Odartey Lamptey. Lovers of everything foreign on the other hand, would have been enthralled to join a trio of Joy FM’s sports anchors as they took charge of pre-match discussions on Joy Sports on Multi-TV.
Two concurrent LIVE pre-match discussions, conducted in different languages, had never before been achieved in television of purely Ghanaian origin.
The match itself was largely uneventful from a Ghanaian point of view. The Stars made little headway in the first half and were fortunate to be down by just a goal at the break, after being thoroughly dominated by the supremely confident Bafana Bafana.
A rapid succession of substitutions in the second half -including debuts for Cofie Bekoe and Bright Addai, improved the Star’s play considerably but resulted in no meaningful opportunities. South African Coach Pitso Mosimane was pleased to pick up his first win. Ghana’s fond memories of South Africa will now seem a distant memory following what is now their second reversal in as many matches on South African shores.
Attention now switches inevitably to the European League season which begins in earnest on Saturday. Rumours doing the rounds suggest that the likes of Essien, Ronaldo, Robben, Gerrard, Sneijder and others will ALL play a part in Multi-TV’s coverage of Europe this season. Really? Fact will soon be separated from rumour in the coming days.
Either way, fans of Joy Sports and Multi-TV are guaranteed an action packed, variety saturated season of European football.
