The Executive Board Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Dr Desmond Kofi Kodua Sarpong has revealed his interest in encouraging the proper use of scouts in recruiting players for the club in his tenure as the club’s management head.
According to him, scouts will monitor the lower leagues to ensure Kotoko benefits from budding talents otherwise not exposed to the public.
He will also put proper structures in place to make the youth development of Kumasi Asante Kotoko effective to groom young footballers for the senior side.
Dr. Sarpong stated on Asempa FM’s sports morning show that Kotoko had kept its player recruitment this season quiet in order to avoid drawing attention to targeted players and instigate the now ritual of clubs clashing over players.
In a response to the transfer of Francis Coffie whose contract has expired, Dr. Sarpong declared he tried to lure the player to renew his contract with the club but Francis refused to fulfill his part of the deal.
He said reports reaching him indicate that the player has travelled outside the country.
He added that given Kotoko's recruitments and the commitment of the old players, the team will definitely bounce back to win the hearts of its fans.
