Nigeria: Tears flowed freely at Amusan Sapotu village, Odeda Local Government Area of the state as a 12-year-old boy (name withheld) was arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly killing his step-mother, Mrs. Modinat Abegunrin, with his grandfather’s dane gun. Speaking with news men yesterday in the state capital, the Commissioner of Police Alhaji Musa Daura, said the 12-year-old boy was being held in custody with his grandfather, Moses Abegunrin. The Grandfather of the accused, a 65-year-old man however denied any involvement in the murder, saying that he was away at the time of the incident. According to him, “I was not around when the incident happened. But some of our neighbours told me that an argument ensued between the boy and Modinat over the peeling of cassava. This made the boy to use the gun. I just want the police to have mercy on me because I don’t know anything about it”, he said. Similarly, Daura said 13 suspects in connection with armed robbery and kidnapping, as well as two others were also arrested over possession of fake foreign currency. The police also rescued two Chinese nationals, Messrs Long-Chen and Jianhui Gong working at Free Trade Zone, Igbesa in the state. The two men were reportedly kidnapped last Thursday and rescued same day along Ifonyintedo, a border town between Nigeria and Benin Republic. Meanwhile, the police commissioner said two suspected fake foreign currency dealers were arrested last week, around Aseese area of Ibafo along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where they had allegedly established a shrine for their evil acts. According to Daura, the suspects and others now at large, were also involved in the kidnap of innocent people whom they used to extort huge sums of money. While parading the suspects, Daura said his men will stop at nothing to rid the state of crime, adding that the command had recovered 17 vehicles, 39 ammunitions and 11 arms in less than two weeks, "We also arrested 24 armed robbers, six cultists and 141 suspects", he said.
