Asamoah Gyan could realise his dream move to English football after Sunderland stepped up the chase for the Ghanamarksman.
The Black Stars striker started Saturday’s French Ligue 1 game for Stade Rennes but could join his international colleague at the Stadium of Light if Sunderland are successful with the bid.
Sunderland chairman Nail Quin, himself an accomplished goalscorer during his playing career was in France on Saturday to try and broker a deal but Rennes are reportedly holding out for a staggering 15 million pounds for the striker who scored 13 league goals for them last season.
Sunderland have already sold Kenwyne Jones to Stoke City and their need for a new striker became even more imperative after Fraizer Campbell suffered suspected knee ligament injury in their 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce admits they are looking for a new striker but has not been drawn on whether that striker is Gyan yet. "It's imperative that we try to bring a body in because we are a bit short there and if [Campbell] he is going to be missing for the next couple of months, which could be the situation, then we need to act if we possibly can."
