FIFA is to establish one of its twenty Football for Hope centers for public health, education and football in Ghana which will help address local social challenges that young people face in disadvantaged areas by helping to improve education and public health services.
The twenty centres for 2010 will promote social development through football long after the final whistle of the 2010 FIFA World Cup leaving a tangible social legacy for Africa. Cape Coast in the Central Region has been chosen for the establishment of the Centre.
Speaking at a meeting with FIFA President Sepp Blatter, President John Evans Atta Mills thanked FIFA for its support in helping Africa to host the 2010 World Cup and for choosing Ghana as one of its twenty centers for the FIFA Centre of Hope projects.
According to him, the government will always open its doors to FIFA in any support it needs from Ghana and assured FIFA that Ghana will by all means be at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He was hopeful that the Black Stars will do better than their performance in South Africa and lift the trophy in Brazil.
Sepp Blatter thanked President Mills for the support he has given sports particularly football and also for not meddling in the affairs of the Ghana Football Association. He said Ghana is dear to the heart of FIFA.
The former captain of Black Stars and a member of FIFA’s technical committee in football, Abedi Ayew Pele in an interview with Asempa News, said the project will help to train football administrators and players in the football industry which will improve and help Ghana Soccer.
