The Premier League Board has dissolved the Referees Appointment Committee days before the opening of the 2010-11 league season.
Reasons for the dissolution are sketchy but the Chairman of the dissolved committee, Albert Agbovi has told Joy Sports the decision had nothing to do with their performance.
The committee had been in office since the Ben Coufie administration in 2001 but the PLB dissolved it Monday.
A new referee’s appointment’s Committee chaired by Mr. Dan Kerbi and assisted by Alex Quartey, Alex Kotey, K.K Yeboah and K.K Tadoh has been instated.
Albert Agbovi says although their removal was wrongly timed he believes the new folks can succeed.
“We don’t think that it is because we were not doing anything or because we were doing things badly that is why the committee has been [dissolved].
“What I realise is that one of the committee members think that some of the committee members were becoming too close to the referees and so they think complacency was setting in some referees and so they think that when new faces come things will improve. We pray for that,” he said
