Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac is looking ahead to a fresh start beginning with the African Nations Cup qualifying match against Swaziland despite having been at the helm of the Black Stars job for two years now.
With his credentials further enhanced within the past seven months following Ghana's second-place finish in Angola at the African Nations Cup and a quarter-final berth at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Rajevac takes charge of another campaign, his second Nations Cup qualifying series.
Ghana begins the qualifiers on Sunday against the Swazis in Lombamba as a host of matches kick off on the continent.
The coach sees the Nations Cup qualifiers as a fresh start and his focus is to reach the finals of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon/ Equatorial Guinea.
“We have important matches to play in the qualifiers, we need to do well there and build a good foundation,” Rajevac said.
“We need to concentrate and collect maximum points throughout the campaign. Of course sometimes that is not possible, but that should be the attitude of any team that has ambitions. We know that we have to work harder and we will face quality teams. The Africa Cup of Nations is our main priority now.”
The Ghana team continues to evolve as new additions have been made to the squad for the match against Swaziland. However as Rajevac looks ahead to fresh starts and a brighter future, he insists that no player has been axed.
"So, every player always has a chance. No player has been axed from the national team. We always need the best at anytime. But the needs of the team and what a player can do to help us achieve our targets would determine who gets invited."
