Ghana’s sprinter Aziz Zakari has told Joy Sports he is not ready to retire from the sport.
The 34-year-old has come under heavy criticisms after he was disqualified for a false start in the 100m finals of IAAF Continental Cup in Croatia at the weekend.
Ace journalist Karl Tuffuor minced no words in calling for the retirement of the sprinter. He would not forgive him (Aziz) for failing a drug test.
But Aziz insists nobody can force him into early retirement.
“The point is that nobody can retire me. I can retire myself whenever I want to retire. If Ghana chooses not to let me run for the nation that is fine, I can still go to Europe to run.
“I am just really disappointed with myself again that I had a false start," he stated.
He said he is training feverishly for the Commonwealth games.
Aziz Zakari won silver in the men’s 100 metre final at the African Athletics Championship and is hoping to improve upon that performance at this year’s Commonwealth Games in India.
