Former Minister of Youth and Sports and now the Deputy Majority Leader in parliament Rashid Pelpuo have declared his interest in employing a local coach to take over the Black Stars after the departure of coach Milovan Rajevac.
According to him, there is a beginning to everything and entreated that a local coach is given the opportunity to take the job and build on his experience.
“I have always had the desire for a local coach to manage the senior national team and when I became the sports minister I made it clear that, when Milovan’s contract ends we should go in for a local coach."
Speaking on Asempa FM’s sports morning show, Mr. Pelpuo wondered why the nation is so fascinated about employing the services of a foreign coach.
“If we see our local coaches as people of international stature and trust them the way we do with the foreign coaches then I think we can work with them. I believe a Ghanaian coach can do the job if given the opportunity.” Mr. Pelpui said.
He added that the more we see them as being incapable the more the players disrespect them and their instructions. We should deliberately employ a local coach and give the person the needed motivation and support.
