There is uneasy calm at Ashalaja, a suburb of Accra, following Wednesday exchange of gun fire between two factions in a land dispute.
One person was reportedly injured in the shootout.
Residents there say they are living in fear after yesterday’s violence.
The Greater Accra Police Command has deployed personnel to the area following Wednesday’s violence.
Wednesday’s event reportedly stems from a long-standing chieftaincy dispute between two families, each of them claiming to be the legitimate ruler.
The Ga West municipal town is notorious for gun fights fuelled by chieftaincy disputes.
In 2014 a Homowo festival celebration at Ashalaja turned fatal when a 36-year-old man was shot, while five others sustained gunshot wounds in a chieftaincy dispute in the area.
The victim, identified as Charles Kwaw Minta Addy, died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital a day after the incident.
Subsequently, the police arrested five persons, including a former chief of Ashalaja, Nii Solomon Obendey, whose stool name was Nii Akwanor IV, until his name was expunged from the register of the National House of Chiefs on July 16, 2014, and one of his sons, identified only as Joshua.
