A 60th minute goal scored by midfielder Sulemana Mamudu gave Brong-Ahafo Stars a lone goal victory over visiting Real Tamale United (RTU) in the third week GLO Premier League match played at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Sunday.
It was a hard-earned victory for the home team as the Tamale lads did their best in an effort to end the game with at least a draw.
The match which started in earnest degenerated into rough play especially at the tail-end of the first half and most part of the second half.
Daniel Larbi Koomson of B.A. Stars and Toffik Alolo of RTU were the worst victims of the hard-tackling encounter. Referee John Attikese of Koforidua, assisted by Michael Fleitcher and Isaac Bassaw, both from Takoradi on the lines did their best to stamp their authority and to instill sanity in the game.
RTU nearly shocked B.A. Stars with an early goal in the third minute but Alolo failed miserably to utilize Abdulai Karimu’s perfect cross from the left flank.
In the ninth minute Ishmael Otoo Amoah of B.A. Stars faced with only goalkeeper John Adjetey of RTU to beat shot over the bar to the chagrin of the home fans.
Spurred on by their teeming home supporters, Stars mounted an attack from thence but they were held at bay by RTU’s iron-clad defence manned by Amos Acheampong, Alhassan Hamidu, Mohammed Baker and goalkeeper Adjetey.
With no goal to either side at the end of the first half, both teams re-launched attacks on resumption but it was the homesters who managed to score the much-needed winning goal.
The goal came from a goalmouth scramble which saw Mamudu pouncing on the ball to give a non-drop powerful shot to goalkeeper Adjetey had no answer.
Early on the reserve division encounter ended a goal apiece.
